FUNCTION OF AN IDLER DRUM ON A CONVEYOR BELT
To meet specific needs on belt conveyors, ALTEMA can manufacture customized idler drums, also known as conveyor rollers. The roller is part of the conveyor system, but unlike the standard mass-produced commercial roller, at ALTEMA each idler drum is designed and manufactured to meet specific customer requirements.
The advantages of the idler drum on a belt conveyor
On a standard drum, even a small-diameter one, the shaft protrudes from each side of the belt and is guided by plummer blocks. This requires a support to hold the plummer blocks and therefore the drum. In most cases, the idler drum will be installed on the conveyor, as space constraints prevent the integration of plummer block bearings on either side. We use UCFC flanged bearings for the shaft/flange connection on this type of drum.

The self cleaning pulley is manufactured with bars welded to the side flanges instead of the tube as on a standard drum.
